Chevrolet Malibu Air Conditioning Problems

Getting the air-conditioning system of your Chevrolet Malibu recharged once it has been repaired involves a process of 2 parts. Because of the air and moisture that would enter into the system after it was opened, they should be removed. After removing the air and along with it, the moisture, the R-134A refrigerant for your Malibu can be filled in for restoring the system for factory performance.

You would need some specific tools and equipment for doing this service, which you can rent out or purchase from a store dealing in automotive parts.

  • Take out the lower air filter housing away from the upper air filter housing with the help of a screwdriver. Take out the 10 mm bolts, which attaches the lower housing with the inner fender on the driver side, properly in the engine section. Keep the lower housing at a side.
  • Look for the service ports over the air conditioning lines that are located below the air filter housing. Fix the valve at the ending of the hose in blue with the gauge put at the fitting on the low side that is seen on the air conditioning line on the big diameter. Fix the high-side valve in red at the end of the hose in red with the gauge put at the fitting on the high-side on the air conditioning line on the smaller diameter. Shut the service valves on the assembly of the gauge and unlock the valves at the hoses ends as you turn their knobs fully till they stop.
  • Turn the valve at the yellow service hose end with the gauge put to the vacuum pump inlet. Turn on the vacuum pump and open up the service valves over the gauge assembly. Let the pump run for an hour so, that all the air and moisture escapes from the system.
  • Turn off the vacuum pump. Shut the service valves and from the yellow-colored hose, take off the vacuum pump. Fix a can tap on the yellow-colored hose and turn on the refrigerant can onto the tap. Turn on the thumbscrew over the tap till it stops. Remove the thumbscrew completely for opening the refrigerant can. Open the service valve in blue over the gauge assembly and turn on the engine. Put on the air conditioner and adjust it for maximum air conditioning.
  • Let the refrigerant can empty into the system, after which shut the service valve and put in another can and repeat the process until you fill the system. The air-conditioning in Malibu holds refrigerant of 28 ounces. Check for any leaks and test drive your car to ensure that the system works properly.
